There are several legends surrounding the shamrock one says the leafs will stand upright when a storm approaches and that no snake will be found among them. The word shamrock comes from the old Irish word "seamrog" which means "summer plant." It is also well known for its connection to the Christian faith, as it was used by Saint Patrick for conversion of the pagans to Christianity.
