Colour is the key factor in assessing a good ruby, the more bright and vivid the colour, the better. As almost all rubies carry inclusions, it is desirable to ensure that the position of these impurities does not detract from the stones brightness. A good cut adds to the beauty as a well-cut faceted ruby reflects light back evenly across its surface. If the stone is too deep and narrow, areas will be dark. If it is too shallow and wide, parts of the stone will appear washed-out and lifeless.
We select heart shaped rubies that vary in colour from pink/purple through deep red. They are all evenly cut to ensure maximum radiance and are also calibrated to fit our range of mounts. |
